About Us

Reach, Reflect, Connect

After 15 years of serving the homeless, Blessings Under The Bridge has now crossed over “Beyond!” the Bridge. We are now officially Blessings And Beyond! On February 1, 2023 we officially became the meal provider for the new Trent Resource and Assistance Center (TRAC). Every day we prep, cook, bake, and deliver 1,200 meals. We also provide clothing, hygiene, special events, compassion, and love to the guests staying there. To keep our roots, Blessings still provides volunteer opportunities every Wednesday. We have been working on several other exciting projects and programs to reach more within our community. This includes Lockers Of Love, which is a patent pending, biometric, fingerprint locker with a built-in mailbox, USB port, and power outlet. This referral-based resource will help others rebuild and restore their identity.

Blessings & Beyond (B&B) is a local and faith-based nonprofit in Spokane, WA serving meals and more at the Trent Resource and Assistance Center (TRAC). It was founded in 2007 by Jessica Kovac under the previous name, Blessings Under The Bridge (BUTB). On a cold Saturday morning, 40 Brown Bags, a case of water, and a passion to simply love and help the homeless in Spokane quickly grew into the largest community-building event in Spokane. Previously serving under the I-90 bridge, B&B is now partnered with the Salvation Army to bring hope to our homeless friends by providing practical resources and the love of Christ under a warm roof, within a safe environment. Our organization is 100% funded by the kind and generous sponsors, donors, and others who support us. We have served, helped, and blessed over 250,000 lives to date. Our B&B Family consists of a growing staff of full-time and part-time employees, a small board, and a fruitful group of leaders and volunteers. We have grown tremendously over the years and expanded our heart’s mission on many levels.

OUR STORY

October 2007

The Beginning Of Blessings

Jessica Kovac, working as a server in an upscale restaurant, used her tips and joy to bless others. She knew her life would never be the same. Her spirit was alive as she felt God stirring her to help those in search of hope on the downtown streets of Spokane, Washington. Knowing this was something beyond her, she trusted God’s guidance and prepared 40 brown bags along with a case of water. On that cold October morning, she stepped out in faith. The Blessed Brown Bag was born that day. That step has since changed her life and encouraged others to join her.

1st Winter Event Serves Over 400 People

Soon, the team had decided to bring Christmas to the “Living Rooms” of the homeless and the first annual Blessings Under The Bridge event was born. With linens on the tables a hot gourmet brunch and dozens of volunteers, they served on the pavement under the freeway of downtown Spokane. Since then the “Blessings” have been unending.

Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening

After much preparation, coordination, and anticipation, we welcomed the public to our tour our new building. On May 2nd we were joined by members of Greater Spokane Inc. (GSI) for our official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. One week later, on May 10th, we opened our doors to the public through our Grand Opening Celebration, which was a fun time of music, food, and fellowship. It was our joy to visit with people who have served with us and supported us for years along with many new friends who have expressed their interest in our mission and journey.
