Overcoming Homelessness Is A Process

And We Have A Solution

Securing identity is a critical gap in the fight against homelessness. Less than 30% of our homeless population has the correct documentation to defeat homelessness alone. Not having an ID can make it virtually impossible to escape homelessness – it means lacking access to:

  • federal, state and county buildings, where social services agencies that help the homeless are often located
  • I9 verification to obtain employment
  • bank account or a safety deposit box
  • food stamps
  • applying for disability benefits

This is real-time data taken in a semi-controlled environment and is based on information gathered during the weekly meal gatherings that Blessings Under The Bridge held every Wednesday for 15 years.

The Vision Behind R|R Smart Lockers

The RR Smart Locker concept was developed in 2012 by our founder, Jessica. Initially naming them “Lockers of Love.”

While driving one day, she noticed an elderly man walking alone along the road. He was hunched over, carrying what appeared to be a heavy backpack. Jessica slowed down and watched closely, sensing that the weight he carried was more than physical. It felt emotional, mental, and spiritual.

She wondered what could be so valuable in that bag.
An ID.
A Social Security card.
A tattered, warped birth certificate.
His only extra pair of socks.
A bag of food someone had given him.
Or perhaps, tucked away at the very bottom, the only baby picture he had of a daughter he hadn’t seen in years.

In that moment, a question formed:
What if there were a way for people experiencing homelessness to safely store the few items they own—and receive their mail with dignity?

At the time, Jessica believed it was just an idea. She placed it quietly in the back of her heart, mind, and file cabinet, and continued building a heart-led nonprofit rooted in service and compassion.

The concept resurfaced with unmistakable clarity in 2022. It became clear that there was an urgent need to provide security, safety, and dignity for people working to rebuild their lives. Fast forward to 2024, working alongside Blessing’s Director Robert—and with the support of engineers, professionals, and legal advisors—Jessica created her first patent: a unique smart locker aimed at helping individuals rebuild and restore their identity, boost their confidence, and recover their sense of self-worth.

RR Smart Lockers is not just a product.
It is a critical part of the solution.

Jessica’s vision became reality when her first order entered the Catalyst Program through Catholic Charities of Spokane. Since then, RR Smart Lockers have reached shelters in various cities in Iowa state, with inquiries and interest coming in from many other states.

Today, others are seeing beyond the original God-given vision—to the broader impact RR Smart Lockers can have across resource facilities, transitional programs, disaster relief efforts, mobile setups, and even personal use.

As a nonprofit organization, proceeds from all sales directly support our mission—and extend far beyond—creating pathways of dignity, security, and restoration for those who need it most.
